I Exist as a Collection of Echoes

I Exist as a Collection of Echoes explores the quiet violence of supressing feelings. The way in which upspoken feelings accumulate beneath the surface. The work is a reflection of the internal conflict of wanting to scream but being unable to. when emotion has no clear outlet, it fragments, reverberates and returns as echoes within the body. What remains is a physical trace of silence, concealing the weight of everything left unsaid.

I Exist as a Collection of Echoes, Plaster, Silicone, 2025, 38cm x 22cm x 15cm

THE PROCESS

The sculpture was created through a slow, physical process. Mouths were first sculpted in clay and cast in silicone, capturing expressions of the unspoken. These silicone forms were embedded within a solid plaster block, concealing them beneath the surface. The plaster was then gradually chipped away by hand, revealing fragments of the mouths contained within the structure. The final surface retains the marks of this labour, recording the physical trace of silence.
